1. Volunteer in Pittsburgh – we need:
Event Volunteers (Fair Trade Ninjas): Have a passion for fair trade, Central America, local and organic food and/or education? Like to talk with people and educate them about issues that matter? Help BNH table at educational events, volunteer fairs, festivals, farm markets and holiday markets and sell BNH coffee by the bag and cup.
Barista Volunteers (Brew Crew): Want to learn how to brew the coffee? Already working in a coffee shop? Like working events but want to stay “behind the scenes” and brew and/or serve coffee? “Brew Crew” Barista volunteers and event volunteers often work together to help BNH successfully table and sell BNH coffee.
Coffee Delivery Volunteers: We need help weekly checking our orders for accuracy and help to deliver them. You provide your time and vehicle; we provide our extreme gratitude, a mileage reimbursement, and coffee in thanks!
Administrative Volunteers: Help to prepare a mailing, affix labels to our coffee packaging, or other administrative projects. Some of these projects might be suitable for small groups of volunteers. We need regular help with our data entry and event follow-up from one trained individual who can come in regularly.
“Bean Mover” Volunteers: Occasionally BNH needs volunteers with strong backs to help move the incoming coffee harvest. Let us know if we can put you “on call” to help the few times a year we need it.
Professional Services Volunteers: Are you working in the field of graphic design, public relations, marketing, writing or Spanish translation? Do you have other professional skills that you’d like to put to use in order to help a not-for-profit organization?
All volunteers have access to bottomless cups of coffee and a wholesale rate for bags of coffee!
2. Nicaragua based volunteer opportunities also possible
Applicants must have advanced to fluent Spanish language ability. Our Nicaraguan teaching staff most need support in ESL and sharing expertise in music, art, or technology and STEAM. They ask that volunteers come with lessons plans prepped. Contact us to explore this option. If groups would like to visit our supplemental schools as part of their time in Granada, Nicaragua, please contact us for possibilities and more information.
For credit or for experience internships available each semester and in the summer. Email us for our Fair Trade Coffee Project or Research Assistant volunteer internship descriptions or discuss a custom internship, such as in marketing or an education focused internship in Nicaragua.
